I might start FACEMAGAZINE.COM ... ya know ... for dummies!

Last night I finally buckled down and watched 'The Facebook' ... No. Wait. It's a movie ABOUT Facebook, called - The Social Network - the film that took home the big prizes (Best Picture & Best Director) at this year's Golden Globes.

It's gotten a lot of hype and press and many predict (especially after the Globes) that it'll be the big winner at this year's Academy Awards (February 27th). So ... was it THAT good? ... In a word? Yes. The movie was outstanding. At exactly 2 hours long, it never felt dragged on or slow for an instant. The 'protagonist', Mark Zuckerberg, WAS kinda an asshole who was hard to like and sympathize with ... but I think that was the point, and you never really stopped rooting for him regardless. There's never any huge worry since pretty much everyone already KNOWS how the story ends, but it was still exciting all the way through.

Jesse Eisenberg? Awesome. Once touted by many (myself included) as a 'poor man's Michael Cera' has been grinding for a while with most notable recent starring roles in Adventureland and one of my faves of 2009, Zombieland. He's the MVP in The Social Network and his star has totally skyrocketed from it, especially with his Oscar nod for 'Best Actor', win or lose.

Honorable mention and huge kudos also are in order for Justin Timberlake who portrayed Sean Parker. Definitely his best role and strongest performance to date, which I think cements him a true actor and NOT just another musician trying to do it all, but only succeeding in embarrassing himself up on the screen ... *cough* 50 Cent *cough*

Also snaps for Armie Hammer (cool name) for playing 2 people: The Winklevoss Twins (not so cool name). The best special effects are the ones you don't even know to look for, and The Social Network pulled THAT off terrificly as well. (although seldom mentioned, actor Josh Pence stood in as the 2nd twin in scenes where both brothers appeared together. His face was later removed and Armie Hammer's face was inserted)

So what's the overall verdict? ... with the ratings system of:

  • Loved it - one of the best movies I've seen in a long time and worth every cent of the ticket price. I can't state enough how much u need to go see this movie ...

  • Liked it - it was an enjoyable flick for the most part and I'm glad I watched it. Will I run out to buy it when released on video? ... Probably not.

  • Leave it - ranging from the truly forgettable to the "wait a minute ... that didn't make any sense" in the 1st 5 minutes after I leave the theater. Basically - a whole lotta nothin.

  • Loathed it - a movie that literally makes me ANGRY after I exit and for days and weeks after. Angry that I wasted my time and money, and angry that such a piece of shit was ever made and that people actually received payment to do so.

  • I Loved it. Without a doubt, one of the top films of 2010. So scrounge your pennies together. Put on your puffy jacket and that ugly hat of yours (you know the one I'm talking about), and go out and buy this movie. It's def worth watching over and over.

    You're welcome.

    1. I liked the movie but detested JT. He is so hammy. Every scene he's in, he's surrounded by capable actors so he isn't carrying it alone. Watch a JT movie where he's exposed. Cheezy.

      We are totally fighting now.

    2. Wrong. and Wrong. What about the scene where he's introduced in the Stanford girl's bedroom? i BELIEVED he was Sean Parker!! Nobody carried him there! Plus when he and the "21 year olds" got busted at the party?

You might be 'hatin' a little bit right now, Kat ... i'm WATCHING you ...

    3. Not JT's best role... He was good in Black Snake Moan... God I love Christina Ricci.

    4. *sigh* I am straight up hatin'.

You, good sir, were on the other hand, obviously too busy spooning your *NSYNC dolls (TM) to notice that there were females in this film. I see no review of any of their performances (Rooney Mara!). You can't just will "JT The Actor" to HAPPEN. Your review is therefore labeled invalid. I demand a "Crossroads" review as retribution!

    5. he wasn't "bad" in Black Snake Moan ... but I dunno. he was kinda forgettable. After Christina Ricci, it's lucky I even remember Sam Jackson was in it ... yeah ... I 'heart' me some Ricci too ...
